Dogs don’t speak English

The word “no” is the most overused spoken word by people to their dogs. It is also the least understood word by average dogs. Dogs do not understand English. What they do understand is your tone of voice, not the word itself. Your dog will know by your tone that “no” is negative but if you say it all the time in a multitude of contexts, even your tone will lose its power and the word will cease to mean anything and create more confusion.

To make the most out of your words, choose your canine vocabulary carefully and train yourself to use words consistently. Once you’ve got your doggie talk defined, take the time to teach the meaning of each word to your dog. Now you’re on the road to successful communication.
