Even something as straightforward as who walks through the door first can reinforce your position as your dog’s positive leader. Leaders lead and followers follow. If you allow your dog to charge through the door ahead of you, your dog will perceive that you are happy to follow his lead.

Put your dog on leash and ask for a “SIT/WAIT” as you open the door. Once you are out, invite your dog to join you.
