Dog safety for the wee ones

Among the important lessons that you will teach your children in their lifetime are the do's and don'ts of interacting with dogs. Of all reported cases of dog bites, over 65% of the victims were under the age of 10.

Teach your children the following safety guidelines:

1. Never run up to a dog.
2. Never try to touch a dog through a fence.
3. Never touch a dog that is growling, showing teeth or barking.
4. Never approach dogs without a grown-up's permission/supervision.
5. Always hold out your hand, palm up, and allow the dog to sniff it before touching.
6. Never grab at a dog.
7. Never approach a dog that is tied-up or protecting property.
8. Never touch a dog while they are eating or in possession of a bone.
9. Never hurt a dog by pulling on their tails or fur.
10. Never tap a dog on the head or face, better to stroke them on their chest.
